music napster links

Yo.. Thursday.. damn for some reason I thought it was Friday.. that's depressing.

Big Things, Community Monuments in Canada - Details and pictures of all those big apples, mooses, ducks, nickels etc that exist as tourist curiosities around Canada. Man there's a lot of junk out there.

Ah.. the Napster thing is a little annoying. Personally, I'm a bit torn about the whole situation.. I don't want the artists to not get their deserved share of royalties, but on the other hand, I personally don't want to shell out 20+ bones everytime I want to get an album. Maybe what will work is for CDs to drop to quarter of the price.. maybe that'll work? I don't know.. Then again, I read somewhere that Napster users typically spend more on CDs than non-Napsters.

Sorta like the thing with most of my gaming pals.. we're actually beginning to BUY our games. In the old days, when we were poor little paupers, all our games were cracked copies. But now, we have this sorta "well, they deserve to get some money" mentality.. coupled with the fact that we now have spending cash, we're willing to contribute moolah to our favoured gaming companies.

Hey, did anyone catch last night's Conan O'Brien? He had Christopher Walken AND MISTER T!!! It was pretty good... nice to see B.A. in top form (resplendent in an all silver outfit!).

Afterwards, on that other late night show with the female host, Ray Parker was on (the guy who played Darth Maul and Toad and did some headless horseman action in Sleepy Hollow). I thought it was pretty cool to hear him talk about himself, but when I ICQ'ed Growl about it, he gave me the brush-off. Bah to him and his holier-than-thou, old-man-syndrome!

Any particular reason why you didn't like Cryptonomicon? Or do you just not like that oh-so-loud jacket Stephenson is wearing on the page?

Michelle
I liked that Courtney Love Article.

here's a fact I heard but can't reference:
Cd's could be sold the same as price as what you pay for single CD-R's at a stationary store (around 2.00$) and still make a sickening profit. The markup on these things from bulk toretial is phenomenal.

Hwano (hp)
Mikey - I don't have anything against Neal Stephenson (I haven't read any of his material, including Snow Crash, though I meant to). I was poo-poo'ing Reg's dismissal of my Ray Parker/Mr T enthusiasm, and he was reading that article at the time, spewing excerpts to me.

About the CD thing.. that's what I meant when I said lower the price to about a quarter or whatever... right now those music companies are big fat pigs fearing the prospect of going on a diet. I hate them, I really do. I suspect (can anyone find this out for me?) that it costs them under a $0.05 per actual CD (not including booklet and special packaging, etc).

Personally, I'm disgusted to see that the prices of CDs stay the same while the manufacturing processes have progressed. Oh man the whole thing is making me upset.

reg (hp)
Hmm..used to be I was a magpie on the beach of multimedia, picking up the shiny tidbits that would wash up on the shores of static. Nowadays, I'm just an "old man", going out to sea alone in a leaky rowboat, looking for that marlin-of-meaning.

(I bet hardly a one of you caught the Hemingway reference! *smirk*)

Twas more in sorrow than in anger did I diss the masturbatory antics of a celebrity-machine cosseting yet another star. Who's Ray Park or Mr. T, that I should bat an eye while they strut their hour upon the stage -- and are heard no more. In that same hour, I read the Stephenson article and realized several truths about the current software industry.

Hwan forgot to mention something else I said: "Here's a nickel kid, go buy yourself a better culture." No WONDER he was so irked *grin*

Aw c'mon, I'm just kidding -- I love you guys. I love the western homogenizing culture of preverbal schmaltz. Nihilism is the one true god, and TV is his prophet.

Holier-than-thou enough for ya? heheh

Hwano (hp)
*makes a face* Not only older, but drunker too.

HM
Who doesn't like Courney Love.. especially when she bares her breasts on stage! Girl POWER! Woo woo!

reg_verkin (hp)
Hey Mikeo...article is here.

++Mike (hp)
One important fact people tend to forget is that most recording artists do not actually make much more money if their album sells well. Bands make money off tours and merchandise. The only people who profit from album sales are VERY popular bands, and recording companies.

Having downloaded that article, I've remembered that my re-installed machine doesn't have Winzip yet...

Well, it would appear that I can't seem to get much work done today.. too many distractions. Mostly misterpants stuff though, he just recently spurted out a whole bunch of goodies.

mmmm.. doesn't everyone just LOVE a good hotdog? Hmmm.. Super Borge and Big Franfurter intimidate me.

justinspace, a nice site with high-larious photo-essays.. ebay conceptual art, obscene interiors, and pink triangles. HIGH-LARIOUS.

You should always be checking out your ad here.com.. the latest entry discusses survivor

mark wahlberg doing the nasty with a "slinky female ape" in the shape of helena bonham-carter - "Get your stinkin' paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" "You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! God damn you all to hell!"

[Comment on the above]

Angela
Helen Bonham-Carter as a slinky ape...but will she be wearing a corset? It's bizarre to see Mark Walberg in a love scene with Helen Bonham-Carter in the first place. Exactly who will be saying this line..."Get your stinkin' paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" Helen or Mark?? I think Helen should, it would sound better in a English accent.

The Pork Chop Valentine is so cute and romantic what woman wouldn't want a kissing pork sausage in her mail box on Valentines day.

Whoa.. yeah, the site was down for a while, but I think Risto fixed it up -- pretty sharp guy, that one.

Anyway, I have a bunch of links you guys might want to check out:

CGIWN - Cartoon Girls I Wanna Nail. Uhm, don't go there.. I mean, the guy wants to do Peppermint Patty for GODSAKES!!

Atomic licks Marky Mark's jeans - luvee. breathtaking. she's a wonderful girl.

microscopic images of beer - so THAT'S what Labatt Ice looks like!

BONUS : microscopic images of mixed drinks - now you're just being silly

surveillance camera players - ah, big brother and community-college level actors UNITE

archie mcphee - just in time for christmas: on-line kitschy junk!

memepool.com -- wonderful dynamic link site full of funny and scary and weird and just plain CRAZY stuff, ya know?

The Complete Bushisms (updated daily) -- Hmmm... the good thing is, if Bush becomes president, everyone can say, "I'm smarter than the president!". You'd think the cognitive dissonance of some of these statements would make Bush's head explode. It's a MAD MAD world, I tells ya!

GWB-9000 - requires flash and having seen the film 2001 (and appreciating it)

Screenshots of Black&White -- interesting new game where you take on the role of a demi-god (in the form a tiger/cow/turtle or whatever fits your fancy). Graphics are QUITE impressive.

Oooh, and the piece de resistance: Disturbing Search Requests - Oh i could read these all day and breathe a healthy sigh knowing that humanity is far far crazier than i personally can ever be.

Excerpt:

If you already know the phone number, it seems likely you've already heard what it's about. So why not just call it? Or is this from the new generation of people who grew up on the web and don't know what this whole "telephone" thing is about?

nude guys and dolls
Nude "Guys And Dolls"? Or "Nude Guys" and Dolls? I'm not sure which is more disturbing, but either way, s/he's going to be disappointed to find a collection of our "6 degrees of Elvis Costello" mp3 staff picks.

cheese eating surrender monkeys
I'm not sure what these are, but I know I wouldn't want to meet one. My site ranks #1, but has nothing to do with the search query.

"jacob nielsen" stupid
YESSS! I mean, no. No, we didn't say he is stupid, really.

Update: I just noticed that this person used the Danish search engine interface. Maybe it was Nielsen himself on a casual Friday. Perhaps he decided to let his hair down and do a bit of Ego-Googling in his native tongue.

the best fucking jokes on the net
Hmmm. Does the word fucking serve as a modifier here or are we looking for funnies about the old in and out game? I wonder. Anyway, the search led to my Jokes page, which may contain some fucking good jokes, but probably not many good fucking jokes.

Plain old porn
I can imagine this Kiwi searcher at home (probably a small town like Gore) in front of his PC. It's probably his first time on the web, and his mate has told him about a few URLs. But now he wants the good stuff.

'Where's the porn on this site?' he yells when he clicks on the link to Foaf. 'This bloody internet is a rip off.'

The page cannot be displayed (it has been taken over by bears). Nice remake of the ole IE error page. I should've thought of this a long time ago.

Hmmm.. I changed the hwan.risto.net/index.html so that the journal appears inside a frame. Hope it doesn't cause too much confusion. Just open foreign links in a new window and all the titles will come out fine (and you'll be able to see the true urls). I'm hoping this will shave a few seconds off the download time to get to my journal page.. I should really try to speed up the code but UGH.. that thing is sticky and highly convoluted. Some day soon, maybe. Maybe? I'm tired of it being so damned slow. Perhaps I'll convert over to PHP.. *breathes in sharply* Although, that could be quite a mission in itself.

Haven't done much today.. got to work later than usual (i.e. after 1 pm) as I slept late last night procrastinating... didn't stay up to hear the birds though thank god.

Schizo Advent Calendar - that's about all I can say about it.

Vaguely interesting PDA - demonstrated by a roughly drawn blond.

Bleurk! Instead of paying some soi-disant artist to pencil and colour those amateurish drawings of "Nikki Swan", they could have spent the $100 hiring a flesh-and-blood model for an hour. Or maybe it wouldn't even have cost anything... "You just ASK them!?"

mega-wired mega-homes - make me mega-sick and vaguely mega-jealous, although I'm not too impressed by Larry Ellison's bratty exploits. What a rube.

Thinking of seeing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon this weekend.. pops told me that it's pretty good (Woo-ping Yuen is the fight choreographer (he did the Matrix fights)). *rubs hands* Looking forward to it.

I need to buy some Christmas presents this weekend too.. as well as my dad's birthday present.. AIGH. And my server still isn't working.. ARGH.

And no news about those jobs either. *sigh* Well, if nothing bites it won't get me down.. my original plan was to get my server up and practice and build a portfolio of web stuff. Actually, I tried doing some drawing last night with my wacom tablet.. tricky stuff. It's not as easy as dhabih makes it look!

Sorry, but I'm not quite in the mood to continue with the reminiscing right now. Maybe tonight, or tomorrow when I'm feeling particularly sorry for myself *laugh* OOH.. maybe I'll drink myself into a stink and write about that. But then I'd need to get some mix.

Played some Diablo 2 last night.. finished the Normal level with my Barbarian.. he's got some VERY nice items now (been wearing +% Better Chance to Find Magic Items items), including an Enchanted Full Plate armour rated at 286 Defense.. with a good Shield, monsters have less than a 5% chance to hit him! It's really funny. And I STILL haven't put a single point into Energy.. his maximum Mana is around 37? I only use Bash and Leap Attack so I don't really need a lot of Mana.

Leafs.. augh, don't even mention last night's game... let's move on.

Looking forward to the birthday bash this coming weekend -- lotsa olde skool pally wallys should be there. Will be nice to see 'em/you there.

I also played around with Flash last night.. very simple stuff, you can examine my first (working) flash .swf.. well, first since that old animated menu I did way way back when, which currently resides on the shaw/rogers servers. The thing I'm still trying to figure is how to stream the music/sound data (it's a 1.2 meg file otherwise). Hopefully soon..

Uhm, and this Magic Sword link is for me, to try later.. don't eyeroll me!

Girls have all the fun.. online. This is no great secret.. ever since I started playing on-line games, female characters are almost ALWAYS treated differently than guys. It's some kind of .. cyber-chivalry effect. Just don't let them find out you're actually a guy -- that always pisses 'em off.

Japanese video-game commercials on a Korean website. See if you can find the commercial for super gal-delic hour, which features a "brilliant butt-bump battle game" -- mrp.

These links are from misterpants.com, who's been a busy little internet element lately. Lots of good links, go and be fruitfully entertained.

Hmm.. it appears there won't be any steamy bestial scenes in Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes. Which is fine, though bestiality makes me a bit uncomfortable -- like having to worry about competition from other human males isn't enough. But, the article got me thinking.. is it possible for a human and monkey/ape to have children? Because most dogs can interbreed, right? And I was wondering, well what other animals can breed outside their usual circles? You got your horses and mules and donkeys... why not apes and humans? Or maybe monkeys and apes? What's the rule here? Can different types of snake mate? How about the birds? Could you force difference types of ant to mate?

Don't blame me for wondering -- blame those blasted ancient Greeks and Romans. Man, talk about bestial times.

I've migrated that "fun.txt" list of links file into links.hwan.com, replacing the rather outdated interface there. I don't think anyone was really using it anyway. This new links page should be updated quite often however, so feel free to check it often.

Actually, I used to post the links here, on the main page, but I felt that it detracted from the primary content (ie. my blatherings). Also, I didn't want to be considered a "blog", which in my dictionary refers to a personal website that links to unstable, "site of the day" type items, giving little in terms of actual written content.

Thinking it over, I'm wondering if maybe I should move it back into the primary page anyway... that way, people can comment on them, something I've been thinking of putting in the links.hwan.com page. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes. At the very least, it'd generate more visits and comments. But nah.. it'd also be a hassle to find a link. Well.. hmmm we'll see how things go.
