« 2000/09/21 » 1456 | tutoring chemistry cdr | | Hmmm... I've been thinking of getting a CDRW.. infonec has some pretty sweet deals (speaking of which, cpu prices are WAY LOW.. BUY NOW.. they're super crazy prices.. ram has gone up though). I currently have a very old 2 speed CDR, which has made plenty of coasters, so I wanna upgrade to something more reasonable. I was thinking of getting the Panasonic 8x6x32 IDE internal for $225. Mostly, I want it to make music cds.. hmmm... now that I think of it that way, it almost doesn't seem worth it! AIGH. Oh, and that Notabilia tutoring place called.. they want me to start teaching (teaching??) grade 12 chemistry monday. Gotta brush up on the Aufbau principle and all that jazz.. I can't even remember what my grade 12 chem class involved. I think it was 90% ratio conversions and something to do with mols. Oh yeah.. I sorta remember now.. I had Mr. Wenking Ow as a teacher (seriously.. he was "Mr. Ow".. I jest not. He signed his name as "Mr. WOW"). Oh yeah, and the quote of that class was "There is no 'secs' in science!!", something he exclaimed when commenting on our assignments. Oh, and I think we did that tungsten filament "experiment", where you burned a tiny piece of tungsten and it'd turn an intensely bright white.

| | « 2000/09/27 » 1441 | cdr | | ![[Hwan]](images/journal/hh_beer1.jpg) Well well well.. I managed to make two more coasters with my creative 4210 cdr. I went to the adaptec web site and found out that there was an update to fix problems with Easy CD Creator and Windows 2000. But it didn't work.. nope.. nada. The burn would work fine up to the point of almost completing the burn (i.e. reach 99%) then the program would crash. According to the Watson log file, it crashes on the exact same instruction. Annoying, VERY ANNOYING. I went back to the Adaptec web site and after browsing their listserv archives, I found an article about a guy who has the same problems as I do. Anyway, I suspect it's a software issue, not a hardware one. Ah.. I found a nice page talking about how to burn audio tracks into cds.. excellent.. now all I have to do is wait for my shipment of blank cdr's to arrive from futureshop.. they have a special on spindles of 50 cdrs: only $25! Oooh, and here's a nice cdr faq.

| mlb you probably already checked this, but try switching cd brands - some don't work (even if they are supposed to) with certain writers. | « 2000/10/03 » 1648 | cdr tutoring newworldorder mechwarrior terminator videogame | | ![[Hwan]](images/journal/kidbike.jpg) Hey, I was finally able to burn a music CD.. I thought MusicMatch's Jukebox would do it for me, but after I made one coaster, I discovered that they don't support my cdr (Creative 4210)! Argh. So I did some more searching and found, much to my pleasant surprise, that Goldenhawk's CDRWIN does in fact support MP3 to audio burning. And while they no longer support the 4210, they did at one time so I gave it a go and the test burn worked fine. Oh boy, this is just the beginning of a new era of music and gift-giving! Yahoo. Have you seen the screenshots for the that New World Order game? They're ultra amazing.. ye gods.. how can that possibly be a G400?? Wow. And in other gaming news, you can download the demo to Mechwarrior 4.. here is a link to some screenshots. Not too impressive.. not like the jump from 2 to 3 was. Mech3 was really pretty, and fun to play. Oh hey, did I mention that I ordered that Terminator 2:Ultimate Collection DVD (on special at futureshop.ca for only $30 cdn)? Yeah, it arrived yesterday (with my order of 50 blank cdroms) but I haven't watched it yet because my DVD-ROM only got back from Pioneer today. *rubs hands* Should be good. What else.. oh yeah, I had two tutoring classes yesterday.. Grade 7/8 Math (three students) and Grade 11 Chemistry (one student). The real news was being told that my OAC Algebra-Geometry student doesn't want me as their tutor anymore! Yeah, apparently she thought I was using my cell-phone too much in class. Blah.. it couldn't have been more than 2-3 minutes in a 2 hour class.. over two calls.. and I had her do work while I was talking! I don't care too much, as I absolutely had to take those calls to arrange things with amacpher for the concert. And the mom complained that I wasn't teaching the girl anything -- we spent the class with me showing her how to do her homework, which she DID NOT know how to do and I ASKED HER if she wanted to go over homework or new material. Feh. My Fridays are free now, anyway. The girl who passed the news to me said that this sort of thing happens all the time, that the parents (and sometimes the students) can be pretty fussy. This is primarily why I hate working with the general public... plebes. I don't know why this bugs me but it does.. I shouldn't let it but it annoys me. Ah well.. at least I have my MP3's...

| | « 2003/05/30 » 2320 | cdr | | CRAPPY. I noticed a small scratch on one of my burned CDRs.. so I picked at it and the damn foil peeled right off!! Well, that's the last time I get labelless blank CDs. Curse it all! Man oh man that's annoying. Now I gotta take more care with these burns. My main reason for choosing the blank CDs without labels was price, but also because I figured that there is more waste involved with labelled CDs. But if I gotta throw out a bunch of these labelless ones... ah you don't care.
