![[Hwan]](images/journal/gvw_brdg.jpg) Day six of the cruise was spent on the ship (an "at sea day"), so very little to tell. I spent much of the day in the sun, and I fell asleep on the top deck while reading Life of Pi. I missed the Dutch dessert extravaganza, which Angela said was excellent. Angela and I decided to attend one of the live shows that evening after dinner. A big song and dance number overflowing with the corniest stuff you ever heard. Angela had to leave, it was so bad. Day seven was Nassau, and we had decided to try out a package tour, having heard good reviews from our tablemates. It was a small group, around 25 people, snorkeling about two to four kilometres (my estimate) from shore. They supplied us with gear and wetsuits. The variety of fish was wonderful.. the best we saw the whole trip. Our little boat made three stops. The first was a collection of reef in shallow water (about 20-30 meters deep?), where we saw a barracuda, easily over 6 feet long. It's a rather fearsome fish to behold up close, with it's large jaw and jutting teeth. Ours floated still, seemingly unconcerned with our curiousity, content to wait in the shadow of our anchor line. The next stop was by an artificial reef, made by an intentionally sunken, decommissioned oil tanker. Now that was neat. The water here was much deeper, maybe 6 stories or so? Fairly deep anyway. Several large schools of fish here, but it was difficult to get a good view as my diving ability is somewhat limited. I also made the mistake of swallowing a large mouthful of seawater, which made me want to gag for quite a while, thinking of all those many-legged organisms. Grodie. Third stop was to get a view of some reef shark. Unfortunately for us, a studio was filming some shark film nearby (I forget the name), so they were hogging the attention of all the sharks. Thus we were only able to see one or two, but we got some pretty good looks at them. Six feet long, ultra-smooth swimming motions. We went to another show, this time featuring illusionist James Cielen and "singing sensation", (Canadian) Claude Eric (click for a sketch!). I hadn't heard of either of them, and stayed only to watch the magic guy, who used a lot of humour in his act. The only thing worth mentioning about the plane ride home was that we took Hooter Air! The stewardesses are just ordinary ones however.
