A weekend tarnished by the fact that I did very little. I had been excited by the prospect of going downtown and meeting Cory Doctorow (of boingboing.net), and then perhaps hobnobbing with local bloggers at C'est What? But I missed both. I waited for a friend to message me back (turns out that he was sleeping, and slept until 8 or 9 pm). The thing that annoys me is, why did I wait for someone to go with me? I should have just gone alone. On the other hand, I hate going to these type of gatherings alone. I like having someone I can point out fashion faux pas' to, someone to rescue me from boring conversations. I always feel a little dopey for showing up by myself. So I fiddled around on the computer most of the weekend. I worked a little on babelle, but don't expect her to be up and running any time soon. I spent a long time just trying to get my conversion program to accept two connections to two different mysql databases before finally deciding that it wasn't worth any more effort and shmushed the two dbs into one. Anyway, right now the dictionary seems to be getting filled ok, but the word linking routine is AFU... there's something seriously wrong. Ah, the joys of meaningless error messages. I also downloaded the Unreal Tourament 2004 demo.. not bad at all! They took a few nods from Halo with their SUPER fun vehicles -- it's just so incredibly funny, to me, to see a jeep or flying ship with men standing on it, precariously balanced, getting a free ride. The graphics are not noticeably better than UT 2K3, but that's still pretty good. Pops pointed out the fact that the install is a jaw-dropping SIX CDs.. that's about a 3.5 GB install! It boggles the mind.
