I didn't think Big Fish was all that great. Two caveats -- there was this maddening whining noise emanating from the front of the theatre, barely audible but incessant. Secondly, the screen seemed to be unnaturally dark, making the colours appear washed out. This was in cinema 5 of the Richmond Hill SilverCity, which I'm sure are problems local to that theatre. Nevertheless, they served to diminish my enjoyment of the film.

The movie itself is pretty good. I wouldn't watch it again, but it had a nice ending and it managed to invoke a few guffaws, hearty laughs and even misty-eye-ness out of me. But I would hardly consider it a "great" film. Still, I can see why people like it, and it does have a certain poetic charm.

If you see the film, make sure to shout "Use the FORCE!!!" whenever Ewan MacGregor gets into a fight.

2010/05/21 Hwan I recall trying earplugs well back in my undergrad years, to mixed results. My sleep was troubled by feelings of claustrophobia. I also have a, perhaps unfounded, fear of not hearing the essential alarm in the mornings. However, I may give these another go, thanks.
2010/05/21 llamatron Have you tried sleeping with earplugs? My flat faces out onto a main road, so I've started using the standard foam plugs. It took a few nights to get used to them, but they make a big difference.
